[MUSIC PLAYING] My name is Fabian Mangels. My rule is I am manager in the identity team. My company is research institute for Wegener located in Germany. The headquarter is in Bremerhaven.
The topic of our institute is marine and polar research in the very cold areas, Arctic and Antarctic areas. We have research platforms like the Neumayer Station III in the Antarctica and research residents, like the icebreaker ship Polarstern.
The main risk is that somebody breaks in our systems because we have so much data and it's a treasure of data. So we collect them over 50 years from the nature. And the nature can't bring the data back, so the data is our main treasure. And we need them to look into the future.
Identity management and the governance of it is very important for our company. It's very distributed, the community scientists. And we have open data so everyone can read the data but important is that we save the data for overwriting and deletion.
Science is very special. You need freedom to be creative. And that's the point to choose Identity Manager because this is the only solution what is so flexible and it fits so on our processes. The best benefits to use the Identity Manager was that we need structure. So-- and with the Identity Manager we need structure from the company, so in our project. So we have to manage and [? work ?] the structure, so we need to collect all the structure and put it into a database, so we use SAP. With Identity Manager, now we have the structure to have digital processes.
For me to use One Identity Manager, it's quite cool that it's a REST API. So I can develop our own interfaces through different target systems and we can customize it by our own or with our partner. Yeah, and as a self-service portal is very, very cool. So our customers, the scientists and researchers, can order items or services and access rights. We have the SAP integration in our One Identity.
We use interface, the synchronization project. It's integrated into One Identity Manager. And our [? HR ?] system is SAP. And we are connected, both systems, so we get a, yeah, new persons when they hire or we will provide user accounts automatically and, yeah, access rights and so on.
Before we had Identity Manager we done a lot of paperwork, and we have paper processes, and everything is-- was so crazy. Our journey starts five years ago. So the first year was only making structures and write everything down. And in the second year we make some baby steps. And, yeah, since three years we are fully working with this product, yeah, and have some benefits.
